چکیده

Nanowire crossbar is an efficient nanoscale architecture which can be used for logic circuit design. In this work, we study and compare different crossbar nanoarchitectures and their application in logic circuit implementation. To evaluate the performance of crossbar architecture compared to the conventional CMOS logic design, we have implemented logic circuits using both approaches. The equivalent circuit models of the crossbar-based circuits are then extracted and simulated using HSPICE. The CMOS circuits are also simulated using 22-nm technology parameters. Our simulation results show that crossbar-based circuits have much smaller area while CMOS circuits show better performance in terms of delay. We implemented area optimized cell libraries based on the crossbar architecture which considerably reduces circuit area. Simulation results of benchmark circuits using SIS synthesis tool indicate that the crossbar cells can be combined with CMOS cells to achieve tradeoff between circuit area and speed. & 2013 Elsevier Ltd. A hybrid evolutionary algorithm for multiobjective variation tolerant logic mapping on nanoscale crossbar architectures

Nanoscale crossbar architectures have received steadily growing interests as a result of their great potential to be main building blocks in nanoelectronic circuits. However, due to the extremely small size of nanodevices and the bottom-up self-assembly nanofabrication process, considerable process variation will be an inherent vice for crossbar nanoarchitectures. In this paper, the variation t...

Nanowire nanocomputer as a finite-state machine.

Implementation of complex computer circuits assembled from the bottom up and integrated on the nanometer scale has long been a goal of electronics research. It requires a design and fabrication strategy that can address individual nanometer-scale electronic devices, while enabling large-scale assembly of those devices into highly organized, integrated computational circuits. We describe how suc...

CrossNets: Neuromorphic Hybrid CMOS/Nanoelectronic Networks

Hybrid CMOS/nanoelectronic circuits, combining CMOS chips with simple nanoelectronic crossbar add-ons, may extend the exponential Moore-Law progress of microelectronics beyond the 10-nm frontier. This paper reviews the development of neuromorphic networks (“CrossNets”) based on this prospective technology. In these networks, the neural cell bodies (“somas”) are implemented in the CMOS subsystem...

CMOL and cousins: Hybrid CMOS/nano circuit FAQs

Q: What is CMOL? A: The basic idea of hybrid CMOS/nanoelectronic circuits is to complement the CMOS stack with a few-layer nanoelectronic addon (Fig. 1a) in the form of a nanowire crossbar (Fig. 1b). This idea may be traced back at least to the pioneering paper by J. Heath et al. [1]; however, the authors of that work and several following works in which this concept has been developed (see, e....

Fault-tolerant adder design in quantum-dot cellular automata

Quantum-dot cellular automata (QCA) are an emerging technology and a possible alternative for faster speed, smaller size, and low power consumption than semiconductor transistor based technologies. Previously, adder designs based on conventional designs were examined for implementation with QCA technology. This paper utilizes the QCA characteristics to design a fault-tolerant adder that is more...
